Synopsis:
Photonic Crystals include hexagonal rings in a two dimensional photonic crystal silicon slab of hexagonal lattice integrated on microcantilevers for sensing applications. Ring resonator is arranged in between two silicon Photonic Crystals waveguides, i.e., bus and drop waveguides. The new ring-resonators were formed by removing holes of a hexagon from a two-dimensional silicon Photonic Crystals slab in a hexagonal lattice. The sensing characteristics of ring resonator at various position adjacent to the junction of the microcantilever and the substrate are investigated. Biomolecules trapped in a hole functionalized with molecule probes will make the wavelength shift of the resonant
peak. This paper aims at further improving two parameters: Quality Factor and Sensitivity by varying radius of the holes and lattice constant. Two-dimensional Finite Difference Time Domain method and Effective Refractive Index approaches are to be employed for performing simulation.
